Stephanie Bloom is accustomed to serving as cultural bridge. As an artist trained at New York’s Fashion Institute of Technology and a former owner of a commercial business she is comfortable building understanding between people with varying perspectives.
For her latest installation, the solo show “It’s Not Easy Being Green” at the Rogue Space in Chelsea, Stephanie took her inspiration from water to create an installation fostering a dialogue on man’s relationship to his environment.
Here’s a brief video tour of “It’s Not Easy Being Green”
“I began with the concept of water and marshes,” Blooms notes of the installation. “Then man imposes himself, crowding out nature with houses. The ultimate result is my pollution domes which contain tiny dioramas on the inside, such as one of a Native American, of what becomes lost or obscured through our make it-use it-throw it away mindset.”
In addition to previous solo shows at the Graphic Eye in Port Washington, NY, Stephanie has exhibited in Miami’s Art Basel and taken part in BWAC Outdoor Sculpture Show “Garden of Delights,” in 2006. She has works shown at the Rockford Museum in Illinois and the Islip Art Museum among others.
Her newest venture is Stephaniebloom.com. “Of course, as an artist I want to create a connection with the viewer, but actual dialogue in the past was limited to a show’s opening night. With the Internet, I can reach so many more people, gain new insight and channel that energy back into art.”
